How to purge and archive data work objects?

I have a request to archive the data work objects for certain time period and purge them from production. The archived data can be imported to a new database to view the archeived data. Can someone give me some advice how to start it and where to find some documents for this? 

Purging can be done using the below steps first configure what work types you want to purge and next schedule it

1) designer studion--> system-->tools-->Purge/Archive--> configure (in the last steps of this configure you can start schedule process)

2) designer studion--> system-->tools-->Purge/Archive--> schedule Process
